Questions to Ask Before Buying Land in Nigeria

Who owns the land, and what document shows that ownership?

Is there a registered survey plan, and does it match the plot shown on site?

Is the land free from government acquisition, disputes or family claims?

What fees are payable apart from the land price — survey, legal, development, deed?

What documents will I receive after full payment, and when?

Can I build immediately, and are there estate rules or restrictions?

Is road access, drainage and electricity available or planned?

What is the payment schedule, and what happens if I need a refund?

A reputable seller will welcome your lawyer's and surveyor's checks. Treat pressure to pay quickly without verification as a warning sign.
